1903 BOLT ACTION MILITARY RIFLE W/ MODEL 1905 BAYONET. Cal. 30-06. S# 129052. Bbl. 24" marked behind front sight "SA" "flaming bomb" & "6-09". Ladder rear sight w/ volley notch graduated to 2850 yards. Sm. dished grooved windage & elevation knobs. Blade front sight w/ unmarked blued sheet metal cover. S# of receiver indicates mfg. in 1906 assembled to 1909 bbl. The stock is a modified rod bayonet model w/ added recoil bolt & filler piece in stock tip. Filler piece has corrugated fastener visible from the front & is marked w/ “S”. Forend has repaired crack on lower right side extending approx. 3-1/2" behind upper band. Bolt is marked only w/ “S” under safety lug. Bolt & extractor have gas escape holes. Safety & cutoff have serif letters. Smooth trigger. Trigger guard has transverse pin to limit forward travel which would allow rifle to fire when trigger was pushed forward. All milled furniture. Fine checkered trap buttplate. Matching walnut stock set w/ high wood & single recoil bolt. Crisp stock markings include boxed “JSA” “1904” & “C”. Circle “P” proof under grip & tiny “44”. Cutoff recess is marked “D”. Handguard is marked at top rear w/ “S”. Handguard has sight protector swell w/o sighting groove. Handguard made w/o clips. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: nickel plated brass oiler in butt. 15-7/8” Model 1905 bayonet w/ fullered bright blade. Ricasso has partial blue marked on left side “SA” “flaming bomb” & “1908”. Marked on right side w/ “U.S.” & S#. Grooved walnut grips. Khaki webbed scabbard w/ Model 1910 belt hook. Scabbard is marked “BOYT”. Leather tip. Bright blade has been sharpened & turning gray w/ light oxidation throughout. Balance of metal turning patina. Grips have moderate wear. Scabbard has wear & staining; stitching is generally tight. CONDITION: stock set except as mentioned above has very good appearance w/ light wear & scattered sm. handling marks. Metal retains 70% original thinning blue finish w/ light wear. Bore is shiny but lands have considerable wear. (22-4169/RW). CURIO. $1,500-2,500.
