BOLT ACTION MILITARY RIFLE WITH CORRECT BAYONET. Cal. 8X53R. S# 77959. S#s match on receiver, bbl., bolt body, floorplate & trigger guard. Bbl. 29 7/8". Bolt head assembly is not present. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. Inverted V front sight. Receiver is marked with numerous Japanese characters. Bbl. is marked over chamber w/ "Imperial MUM". First type front bbl. band w/ bayonet lug. Walnut stock w/ one piece construction & correct coarse checkering. Stock is marked on left side in cheek area w/ # "30" which has been filled in white paint. Right side of buttstock has numerous Japanese characters in a rectangular box & circular marking containing faint Japanese characters. Flat buttplate w/ sliding trap which contains 1 - 9 3/8" cleaning rod section. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: correct 11" fullered blade bayonet w/ curved quillon. Cross guard is marked on right side w/ "Imperial MUM". 3 1/4" has short section of Walnut grip. Pommel has distinctive "bump" for the bayonet catch. Steel scabbard w/ flared tip. Bayonet blade has discoloration, light oxidation and fine pitting. Balance of metal turning overall gray & patina w/ worn dented walnut sections. Scabbard has traces of blue w/ areas of peppery oxidation. CONDITION: stock has original finish w/ considerable wear, staining, dents and scratches however stock markings are mostly legible. Metal retains approx. 50% of original blue w/ wear turning patina w/ peppery oxidation. Buttstock has notable loss of wood around buttplate which does not fit tightly at toe. Bore is worn lands & darken grooves. (23-429/RW). CURIO. $300-400.
