RIFLE UPDATED FROM OBENDORF GEW 98 BOLT ACTION MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 4567. All visible numbers match. Bbl. 23 5/8". Original receiver markings were removed when the conversion was performed. Receiver ring is now marked on top "42" & "1939". Right side of receiver ring retains Imperial proofs. Left side of receiver ring & bbl. over chamber have partially obscured German eagle w/ outstretched wings. Bbl. is also marked over chamber w/ "S"; turned down bolt handle w/ recess stock. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. Inverted V front sight. Sight base is not machined for sight hood. Cleaning rod & bayonet bar are present. Milled upper band retains parade hook. Lower band milled w/ provision for side sling. Walnut stock set. Buttstock is marked at belly w/ "K" indicating stock mfg. for the shorter 98k rifle as opposed to the GEW 98. Stock is additionally marked at bottom of forend ahead of trigger guard w/ what appears to be "H". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: unmarked blued steel sheet metal muzzle cover & sight protector. CONDITION: stock set has moderate wear, scratches & handling marks throughout w/ generally dark stained appearance. Metal has 50% original worn thinning blue turning gray w/ scattered handling marks. Fair bore w/ worn lens turning dark in grooves. (22-665/RW). CURIO. $500-700.
