SCARCE GERMAN LATE WWII PRODUCTION (H) MARKED

STEYR (BNZ) MODEL 98K MILITARY BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 8 mm Mauser. S# 6687q. Bbl. 23 3/4". Late war Steyr manufactured rifles were known for a lack of finish & machining shortcuts late in the War. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. Inverted V front sight w/ protected hood. Numbers match on receiver, bbl., bolt & shroud. Receiver is marked on top "bnz45". Mod.98 "German Eagle 23" bbl. is marked over chamber w/ bnz over 1 in shield. "German Eagle 823" partially legible. German Eagle proof & 2 upper case letter "E's" stamped horizontally. Stamped welded bbl. bands attached w/ wood screws. Rifle made w/out bayonet bar or cleaning rod. Stamped trigger guard and floorplate "byf (Mauser)". Laminated stock set marked on right side of butt w/ "German Eagle over H" (Heeres) army acceptance mark; w/ cup type buttplate which has been drilled w/ transverse takedown hole. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gray plastic muzzle cover. CONDITION: stock set was given little or no finish at time of mfg. but retains good clean appearance w/ scattered handling marks & light staining. Metal retains 75% original finish w/ light wear & scattered handling marks. Very good shiny bore. (22-678/RW). CURIO. $600-900.
