FACTORY AKS SEMI-AUTOMATIC RIFLE. Cal. 7.62x39mm. S# 103742. Bbl. 16 1/4". AKS semi-automatic rifle mfg. in China at the Min Shan Factory and imported by Clayco Sports. These AKS rifles imported by Clayco were among the very first Chinese AK pattern rifles imported into country during the early 1980s, and as such are sought after by AK collectors and enthusiasts alike. This example is marked with Clayco Sports' importer information, followed by "AKS SEMI-AUTO/ 7.62X39MM/ MIN SHAN FACTORY/ MADE IN CHINA" on the left side of the receiver, with this early variation's distinctive "ALTERATIONS TO THIS FIREARM ARE UNSAFE AND ILLEGAL" stamp present on the left side of the receiver cover. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, with the bolt carrier and bolt exhibiting a dull gray finish. Metal under-folding buttstock, with a grooved resin pistol grip, and smooth resin handguards. Standard AK pattern front and rear sights, with an AKM pattern slant brake. All numbers are matching and include the receiver (on trunnion), receiver cover, mainspring guide rod, bolt carrier, bolt, as well as the gas tube cyl. MAGS: 1 30-rd. CONDITION: excellent, with metal components retaining bountiful amounts of their original factory blue finish overall, exhibiting some very light wear around the stock swivel from folding/unfolding of the buttstock, with some light superficial handling marks present overall. Brilliant mirror chrome lined bore, exhibiting well defined rifling throughout. Resin furniture shows some superficial marks from handling and storage, but otherwise is very good overall. An extremely attractive example of one of the first Chinese AK rifles imported into the United States. PROVENANCE: Lifelong Collection of Terrance McCarty. (24-562/MLW). MODERN. $1,800-2,500.
