SCARCE MODEL 1826 FLINTLOCK NAVY PISTOL

BY W. L. EVANS WITH "L. S." MARK ON BARREL RECONVERTED FROM PERCUSSION. Cal. 54. NSN. Bbl. 8 5/8”. It has been estimated that fewer than 1,000 of these pistols were made by Evans between 1830-1831. 8/58” Tapered rnd. bbl. is deeply stamped “LS US” at left rear (Life Saving(?) predecessor to the Coast Guard). Bbl. converted back from drum & nipple. Lock has “US” over “W. L. EVANS” in front of cock & w/ date 1830 behind (w/ out USN marking). Lock has been reconverted using old parts. Iron mounted stock has marks on left side above & below belt hook attachment points of “M”, “9” & “G.Z.” below. No other markings are found. Iron ramrod is in swivel attached to front of bbl. CONDITION: bbl. has traces of what appears to be original brown; there is also evidence of brown on lock plate. Iron furniture is brown to gray. Stock shows considerable wear & many marks but appears to be sound w/ the exception of a crack running along ramrod channel from front of trigger guard to bbl. band.
