ACTION RIFLE IN 30-06. Cal. 30-06. S# 57801. The type C was advertised as "The Army Hunting Rifle" & was offered in all normal cals. including 30-06. Good examples are seldom found, this exceptionally fine specimen has 24" stepped military style bbl. fitted w/ commercial type tangent rear sight, & military style V front bead in short checkered ramp. A sling loop is sleeved on. Standard length lg. ring Mauser action marked "WAFFENFABRIK" " MAUSER A.'G." " OBERNDORF a/n" "U.S. 1906" on receiver ring w/ proofs & S# at left. Side wall has usual Mauser Oberndorf marking. Matching bolt has commercial type pear shaped bolt knob & is blued. Action rails are polished & follower has cut to allow bolt to close. Military style bottom metal w/out lock screws is stamped "GERMANY" on floorplate. Rnd. knob pistol grip stock of relatively plain European walnut measures 13 1/8" over military style steel buttplate. Rear sling loop is in military type base behind ball of grip which is checkered. There is no checkering on forend which ends to schnabeled tip. Mauser banner stamped on right side of stock over "U.S.1906". CONDITION: exceptionally fine except for broken stock retaining over 95% of what appears to be original blue. Temper blue is over 80% on most associated parts. Buttplate appears to have been reblued, w/ some pitting. Stock retains most of its original dull oil finish w/ a scattering of marks. Bright shiny bore. Action is smooth. Stock is cracked through wrist & has minor loss of wood at top & bottom. Has not been repaired & movement is visible, needs attention. This model was intended to be the economy sporter & sold for about $10 less than the usual type B model in 1912, $15 less than the deluxe. (21-2551/MGM). CURIO. $1,000-2,000.
