RIFLE CONVERTED TO MODEL 98K CONFIGURATION BY STEYR. Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 9254. Most visible numbers match w/ cleaning rod numbered "42"; replacement bolt assembly has been altered to match w/ incorrect eagle proofs. Bbl. 23 5/8". This interesting rifle was mfg. at Radom Poland in 1937 as a WZ29 short rifle. The rifle was given German inspection & acceptance marks at the Steyr factory in Austria. Receiver ring is marked w/ Polish eagle "F.B. RADOM 1939" & was additionally given the factory code 660. Right side of receiver ring has 4 German eagle acceptance marks; 3 are "623", one is "77". Left side of receiving ring & bbl. has German eagle proof. Left receiver rail has "WZ" lined out & "/40" added to the 29. Left side of bbl. has German eagle "623". Tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. Inverted V front sight w/ protected hood. Bayonet bar & cleaning rod are present. Laminated hardwood stock set w/ correct period leather sling. Buttstock is marked on right side w/ eagle "H" army acceptance mark & 2 eagle "623" acceptance marks. Steel takedown hole marked on left side w/ script "N". Flat buttplate. CONDITION: stock set has wear, staining & handling marks commensurate w/ service in two countries. Metal has traces of blue turning overall gray w/ patina & light wear. Markings are crisp. Fair worn bore turning dark in the grooves. (22-3509/RW). CURIO. $200-400.
