SCARCE SAVAGE & NORTH “FIGURE 8” NAVY REVOLVER.
Cal. 36. S# 334. Bbl. 6 7/8". This rarely offered large frame Navy caliber revolver was made 1858-1859. Unique “figure 8” cocking device uses index finger to pull back lever to cock leaving trigger finger to discharge. In practice this gun could be shot quite rapidly. NORTH PATENTED / APRIL 9, 1858” stamped on left side of loading lever assembly. 2 Line Savage address stamped on top strap which is only partially discernible. Small brass cone front sight, dovetailed notch rear sight on back of frame. CONDITION: good overall, appears original & matching. Metal is a mottled gray/brown patina w/ scattered areas of pitting & erosion. 2 Piece wood grips each w/ matching S# 334 stamped internally, refinished w/ chip repairs at butt. Barrel has been spliced 1" from breech. Surprisingly mechanically functional w/ dark pitted rifled bore. (01-19415/JS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-4,000.
