RIFLE WITH GERMAN PROOFS AND WAFFENAMTS. Cal. 8x57 Mauser. S# 8087h. Bbl. 23 3/4". Numbers match on receiver, trigger guard, upper & lower bands. Unusual rifle mfg. by FEG in Hungary for the German army. Rifle was derived from the 1935 Hungarian service rifle w/ a Mauser type mag. & bayonet bar & provision for the German side sling. Rifle is unusual, having a 2 piece stock similar in principal to the Lee Enfield rifle. Receiver marked on left rail “G 98/40”. Receiver ring marked on top w/ “jhv”, “43” & waffenamt “173”. Receiver & bbl. marked on left side w/ German eagle proofs. Turned down bolt handle w/ checkered knob Tangent rear sight graduated at 2000m. Inverted V front sight w/ protective hood. Cleaning rod is present. Hardwood European stock set. Unmarked German leather sling. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 9 3/4" fullered blade 98K bayonet, which is correct issue for this rifle, marked on left ricasso w/ “41 cvl” & marked on right ricasso w/ serial number. Blued steel scabbard & leather frog. Bayonet has lg. degree of blue finish w/ light wear & handling marks. Grips have scattered sm. scratches. Scabbard has sm. dents & scattered spots of oxidation. Frog has light wear & scuffing. CONDITION: stock set has been lightly cleaned, rendering markings obscure but has generally good appearance w/ light wear & scattered handling marks throughout. Metal has 50% blue turning gray w/ thinning & light wear. Safety shows evidence of brazed repair. Worn bore turning dark. (22-135/RW). CURIO. $500-700.
