SMALL SIGNED SILVER MOUNTED PERCUSSION KENTUCKY

PISTOL. Cal. 40. NSN. 8.5" Overall, 4.5" oct. to rnd. bbl. w/ wedding ring transition & small silver blade front sight. Signature is in fancy script & difficult to read but possibly “J + Alderderfer”. There is 1836 fullstock rifle signed by him which I do not have a photograph to compare. Frank Klay who sold this pistol in 1963 transcribed as “J. Richesbayer” & his letter accompanies. Regardless, this is a cute little late Kentucky pistol w/ engraved silver triggerguard & flat butt cap. Early percussion lock w/ slightly rebated tail, sparse engraving en suite w/ hammer. Grip has short wood extension attached w/ central screw which is covered w/ engraved silver ferrule & silver butt cap attached w/ 9 tiny screws & pins, this is somewhat unique construction. Silver triggerguard terminates to nicely engraved pineapple finial, silver ramrod pipes, horn nose cap. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Frank Clay letter 1963 describing this pistol when he was selling it. CONDITION: very good overall. Lock & bbl. have mostly smooth dark iron patina. Stock is well fit w/ nice striped grain. Ramrod appears to be a modern edition w/ plastic tip. Silver butt cap missing 4 of its 9 tiny screws. Mechanically fine w/ good rifled bore. (01-19980/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-2,500.
