Cal. 50. S#10447. Bbl. 21-5/8" with octagon shank. Percussion fired breechloading action is loaded by pressing a lever inside of trigger guard allowing bbl. to tip forward. Left side has Mass Arms Co. mfg. marking along with Poultney & Trimble agent and Smith patent markings. German silver blade front sight with carbine leaf rear sight. Band fastened walnut forend and straight grip stock have steel carbine buttplate and sling swivels. Estimated 30,000 mfg. 1861 -1865 were primarily issued to Union cavalry units. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl. blue has faded to an even brown. Action retains 80% bright finish blending with areas of flaking. Wood has age darkened worn appearance with numerous marks & dents. Right side of stock has 2 open screw holed of unknown purpose. Forearm has small chip at left of action. Bore is generally bright with strong rifling showing areas of light pitting. (01-20982/DS).
