AIRWEIGHT DA REVOLVER. Cal. 38 Spl. S# A.F.No.1798. Designed as a lightweight survival revolver for bomber crews. 605 Were shipped to the Air Force in 1953, S#'s A.F.No.1795 - A.F.No.2399. Cyls. were known to burst w/ commercial ammunition. These rare revolvers were ordered destroyed in the late '50's & very few examples in original condition remain. Bbl. 2" w/ rib & serrated ramp front sight. Aluminum alloy frame marked "Property of U.S. Air Force" along backstrap. J frame 4 screw action w/ pinned bbl. & flat cyl. latch. Left side of frame above front of trigger guard has "P" proof mark. .240 Case colored hammer & grooved trigger. 5 Shot cyl. Back of cyl. & bottom of bbl. have matching S# "1798". Inside of frame & crane have assembly No. "2250". Rear of extractor and rear edge of yoke (not visible when assembled) have matching number of "27975". Two piece diamond checkered walnut rnd. butt Magna grips w/ silver U.S. Air Force medallions. Back of left grip panel stamped "111/352". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: black leather flap holster. Front edge marked "55D3513". Flap stamped "USAF". Holster has white cord lanyard. Condition is very good. CONDITION: black anodized frame & cyl. retain over 80% finish showing edge wear, sm. handling marks & spots of finish loss. Bbl. retains 98% blue. Hammer & trigger have lightly faded case colors. Original grip finish shows light wear w/ sm. handling marks. Bright near excellent bore. (21-2954/DS). CURIO. $14,000-22,500.
