SMITH & WESSON NO. 1 2ND ISSUE SA REVOLVERS.
BOTH: cal. 22 Short. Bbls. 3 3/16" oct. w/ ribs & German silver semi circular front sights. 7 Shot rnd. cyls. Tip up actions w/ brass frames & spur triggers. 2 Piece rosewood grips. Both of these early revolvers were mfg. during the Civil War. They have full coverage modern custom engraving in the New York style. Engraving consists of vine type foliate scroll w/ punch dot backgrounds on the sides, lower portions of the receiver, backstraps & butts as well as cyls. & all bbl. flats. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 13 5/8" x 8 1/8" x 2 1/8" black painted 2 piece wooden storage box w/ green felt fitted interior.
1) S# 31607. Shipped in April 1863. CONDITION: bbl., cyl. & other metal parts have cleaned white appearance showing spots of surface corrosion. Brass frame retains faint traces of silver finish & has acquired a mellow patina appearance. Original grip finish shows wear & handling marks w/ sm. finish chips. Functioning mechanics. Bore retains sound rifling showing light pitting in the grooves. (01-20080/DS).
2) S# 42103. Shipped in Feb. of 1864. Bbl. latch pin is missing, allowing latch to fall out when bbl. is pivoted. CONDITION: bbl., cyl. & other metal parts have cleaned gray appearance w/ sm. spots of light corrosion. Brass retains traces of silver finish in protected areas & acquiring a pleasing mild patina. Original grip finish shows light wear & handling marks. Functioning mechanics. Dark pitted bore w/ partially intact rifling. (01-20081/DS). BOTH ANTIQUE. $2,000-4,000.
