Cal. 31 (conical bullet containing powder & primer). S# 84. Bbl. 4 1/8" rnd. w/ oct. shank having a rounded muzzle. Fine German silver blade front sight w/ fixed V notch rear sight. Top flat is stamped "SMITH & WESSON / NORWICH, CT. / PATENT" w/ "CAST STEEL" marking over "FEBUARY 14, 1854" date. Full length integral front loading mag. Iron action, hammer & back strap have vine type scroll hand engraving. 2 Piece rosewood bag type grips. Based on an 1854 patent issued to Horace Smith & Daniel B Wesson. Estimated 1,700 mfg. 1854-1855. CONDITION: bbl. & mag. tube retain some light & some blue in protected areas w/ balance fading to gray. Action & ring type lever have mottled gray appearance showing spots of very light corrosion. Grips have a age darkened appearance showing light wear. Sound mechanics. Bore retains sound rifling showing sm. spots of very light pitting. (01-18092/DS). ANTIQUE. $7,500-12,000.
