SEMI-AUTO PISTOL. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 1452. Bbl. 4" w/ integral feed ramp. After dismal success with their original 32 & 35 cal. autos, S&W took 20 years to reenter the auto pistol market; they produced a wonderful classic, the Model 39. This was America's first 9mm Luger DA semi-auto pistol (MANY to follow). Variation of Model 39 became epitome of target pistols as Model 52. Very first 39 models had traditional steel frames (927 units) before using newest technology of alloy frames. At first there was resistance to alloy frames until consumers saw its longevity along w/ benefits of reduced weight; great ergonomics also helped acceptance & sales. This low numbered early example of 1954 has mixture of special features: right of slide has "PAT'S PENDING" marking, safety is early short style, left grip w/out safety clearance required for later long safeties, no Model markings, long extractor, spur hammer w/ cross drilled hole, micrometer click windage adjustable rear sight, smooth frontstrap, smooth faced trigger, checkered backstrap having lanyard loop at butt, S&W logo on right side of frame by slide lock pivot, mag. safety & "9 M.M. CTG." on bbl. at port. MAGS: 2 factory blued 8 rd. (one still in wrapper); flat topped followers. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: very good original box w/ red metal reinforcements on corners,1452 on bottom & end label stating "9 MM AUTOMATIC" as model. 3 cent postcard type warranty card w/out zip code having 1452 pre written. Near excellent 5 1/4" by 7 3/4" white & green booklet style owner's manual. Cleaning rod & brush in plastic bag. CONDITION: very small mark on frame corner below S&W on right side; all other aspects are near excellent w/ like new appearance. Extremely low numbered example w/ highest of condition.
