BOLT ACTION SHORT RIFLE PRODUCED FOR THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR. Cal. 7 x 57 Mauser. S# A3563R. All visible numbers match. Bbl. 21 7/8". This interesting rifle was produced in Catalonia, Spain by the War Industries Commission set up on August 7, 1936 to supply armaments to the Republican forces. Catalonia had little or no industrial capacity at this point but endeavored to start production as soon as possible which entailed many difficulties. The rifles produced for Republican forces were of the M 1916 pattern. This rifle is a well made & high conditioned example & made by "INDUSTRIAS de GUERRA DE CATALUNA" in 1938 as marked on the receiver ring. These markings are enhanced in white.
The rifle features the second type tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters & inverted V front sight w/ protective ears. Cleaning rod is present. Provision for side sling. Matching walnut stock set. Stock is marked only w/ matching S# on left side over magazine. Flat type steel buttplate w/ tang. Metal parts are blue except bolt & cleaning rod are polished bright. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: includes reprinted magazine articles referring to Catalonian industries & the Models 1893 & 1916 Spanish Mauser rifles. Also included period leather sling. CONDITION: stock set has pleasing appearance w/ scattered scratches & handling marks notable in areas on left side of the receiver area & right side of buttstock. Approx. 3/4" long dent in right forward end of forend at wood line. The stock condition gives an indication of small amount of careful service. Metal retains 90% original blue w/ sm. areas of thinning & light wear on buttplate, upper band & sight protector. Metal has several shallow dents related to the dent in forend.
