BATTALION BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 7.65x63. S# BU23. Numbers match on receiver, bbl. & mag. Bbl. 23 3/4". Bbl. is marked over chamber w/ the "open book" University Battalion crest which includes the words "CAPITAL FEDERAL". This very scarce rifle is 1 of 200 which were made separately from the Argentine contract in Jan. 1895 & donated by Ludwig Loewe & Cie. free of charge to the University Battalion for officer training purposes. There were similar rifles given to the Military School & Naval School marked w/ their own unique crests. Bbl. has been shortened & the original inverted V front sight has been installed. The rear sight is the standard rifle type graduated to 2,000 meters. The receiver has the standard Argentine markings on the left rail w/ the 1891 date. Receiver has Weaver alloy scope bases installed on top & a Bushnell banner 4X32 scope w/ Circle-X Plex reticle. Bolt handle has been altered to clear scope. Bolt sleeve is early type w/out wings. Buehler safety. Mag. has retaining screw. Walnut stock. The original military stock has been shortened. The forend reduced in profile to allow a swell at the forend tip. The stock has been nicely checkered & given a professional finish. 1" sling swivels. CONDITION: stock set has light wear & scattered handling marks throughout giving it an appearance of careful use. The metal parts retain most of their original blue finish w/ fire blue showing on the trigger & bolt release leaving thinning & light wear. Scope is in very good condition w/ clear & serviceable optics. Good shiny bore w/ lightly worn lands. PROVANANCE: the Collection of Gun Sport Ltd owned by Jon R. Thomas. (01-24161/RW).
