SPRINGFIELD 1842 PERCUSSION PISTOL.
Cal. 54. NSN. Bbl. 8 1/2". Brass blade front sight. Appears to be an assembled piece w/ lock likely from an 1842 Springfield musket. Rear of lock marked "SPRINGFIELD/1852". Center of lock has "(Eagle)/US" marking. Hammer is replaced, it has floral engraving & has no half cock. A tag is present that states this gun was Confederate repaired but this cataloger cannot prove that claim. Upper tang & bbl. markings are indiscernible. Brass bottom metal, sideplate & grip cap. Walnut stock w/ ramrod. CONDITION: sanded stock shows scattered cracks, modern putty repairs, chipping & handling wear. Brass parts are a dull yellow w/ scattered oxidation & dings. Balance of metal is a dull gray patina w/ scattered oxidation, dings & pitting. Oxidized bore. (01-23640/MJC). ANTIQUE. $400-800.
