RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 1369852. Bbl. 24" retaining original front sight is marked "S A / 2-32". Muzzle of bbl. is stamped w/ the star gauge as typically found on national match rifles. Receiver is fitted w/ a Lyman rear sight. Turned down bolt handle & aftermarket low swing safety. Bolt is electric pencil marked w/ matching S#. Grooved 2 stage trigger w/ checkering at tip. Left side of action is fitted w/ an Echo side mount holding a Weaver K 2.5 scope w/ post reticle. Classic style cheekpiece custom sporter stock of fancy Circassian walnut. Features include a contrasting wood forearm tip, steel grip cap, coarsely checkered steel buttplate & sling swivels. Forearm & wrist of stock have hand checkering w/ fancy foliate carved borders. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 4 pages of hand written letters & information about the rifle's owner & builder Ebenezer Gay. The letter states "the rifle was issued for use in the national matches". The letter further states that the metalwork & reblueing was done by the Kirkwood brothers of Boston & stocked w/ a piece of Circassian walnut provided by them. Rifle is housed in a Thompson marked plastic hardcase. Case's foam interior is cut to accommodate the rifle & a wood scope storage box by Vintage Gunscopes.com. CONDITION: metal retains over 90% brightly polished reblued finish. Stock has good linseed oil finish showing scattered scratches & marks. Very good bright bore. (24-758/DS). MODERN. $3,000-4,500.
