SERIAL NUMBER: 552916. BARREL: 32-1/2". CALIBER: .45-70. MANUFACTURED: 1892. Used heavily by reserve and National Guard units during the Spanish American War. Standard markings on the lock plate. Barrel is marked "V/P/Eagles Head/P" near the chamber. Maltese cross on the left side of the chamber. Stock has a faint, boxed "SWP/1892" cartouche on the left side. There is also a circled "P" firing proof on the bottom of the wrist. There are numerous unit numbers on the top of the and the right side of the butt. "USA" is carved into the right side of the fore stock. Standard blade front sight and buffington rear. Ramrod bayonet. Military blued finish and oiled wood stock. CONDITION: Metal is fair overall, with a heavy brown patina forming on most of the metal surfaces. Wood has minor handling marks, scrapes and scratches. Bore has some light frosting.
