Cal. 45-70. S# 342189. Bbl. 22" w/ pinned blade front sight having continuous curved base & 1877 carbine rear sight. Case colored 1873 dated low-arch breech block. Receiver is serial numbered in the model 1884 range. US Springfield marked lock. Band fastened short comb transitional (1873-1877) carbine stock w/ saddle ring & bar on left side & trapdoor carbine buttplate. Left side has a clear "ESA" 1877 dated cartouche. CONDITION: bbl. retains over 90% blue showing light muzzle wear. Receiver has faded to a mottled gray brown. Breech block retains lightly faded case colors. Lockplate & hammer retain over 70% blue. Stock has good finish showing a few dents & handling marks. Bore retains sound rifling showing spots of light pitting. PROVENANCE: The Collection of Edward Scott Meadows. (01-24744/DS).
