STOCKING & CO S.A. DRAGOON PEPPERBOX REVOLVER
Alexander Stocking worked for the Allen & Wheelock company during its early days. Stocking secured a patent for his own pepperbox design in 1848 and by the following year had established his own gun making firm in Worcester, Stocking & Company. This is an unusual design in that it is a single action only with large top lever that advances the barrels so it must be pressed each time. This is referred to as a Dragoon Pepperbox due to its long 5" barrel as most were made to rest in ones pocket, these long barrel models were much harder to conceal and carry. It is a 6-shot, 28 caliber, raised ribbed barrel, walnut bag handles, engraved frame. Lever has patent date while barrel is stamped with maker. Condition. Smooth patina overall. Legends are all readable. Hammer cocks and stays in firing position but needs a new hand . ANTIQUE
