STRIKINGLY STYLED, BUT PLAIN, LEFT HAND FLINTLOCK

CONTEMPORARY SOUTHERN STYLE KENTUCKY RIFLE BY THE NOTED RON A. EHLERT. Cal. 50. NSN. Ron A. Elhert of Duck River, TN earned a fine name for his craftsmanship & teaching abilities in the fine art of Kentucky rifle building during the '60's & '70's. He specialized in relatively plain southern style rifles. This fine creation has 38" deeply swamped oct. bbl. which measures 1" across flats at breech, .95" at muzzle, at its thinnest about 2/3 of the way to the muzzle where it measures .715" which gives a dramatic flare to muzzle end. Bbl. is fitted w/ U notch rear & iron blade front sights. Top flat is engraved "This Rifle Made for Rex A. Norris by Ron A. Ehlert in 1983". A left hand Siler type lock has serpentine cock, inset oct. pan, bridled frizzen & feather spring w/ spear finial. Triggers are dbl. set. Iron trigger guard has curl at rear forming grip. The plain dark American walnut stock is cleanly shaped & finished & has pronounced deep sweep to toeline & crescent wood butt w/ steel peg at heel & 3" iron return at toe. A classic cheekpiece is on right side. Stock extends to muzzle & is pinned to bbl. A hickory ramrod w/ brass tip is held by 2 plain iron pipes. CONDITION: very fine w/ evidence of very little use. Bbl., lock & trigger guard retain nearly all of their finely crafted heavy brown finish. Stock has only a very few minor handling marks in all of its original hand rolled finish. Bore is bright & shiny. Lock crisp. A truly lovely rifle. (01-20989/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,500-3,000.
