SXS GUN BY CHARLES BOSWELL. Cal. 16 Ga., 2 1/2". S# 26680. Action & locks engraved w/ 90% coverage well cut sm. scroll w/ sm. rose bouquet highlights. Blued top lever is engraved "PATENT" & each lockplate engraved "CHARLES BOSWELL". Trigger plate has sm. ball finial in Purdey style. Blued trigger guard w/ scroll on bow has S# on tang. Attractively marbled & lightly figured European walnut, straight grip buttstock measures 14 1/2" over checkered horn buttplate & features sm. drop points, classic point pattern checkering w/ mullered borders at grip & vacant gold oval on toeline. Bbls. retaining over 90% original brown w/ excellent definition to damascus pattern w/ only some light silvering & thinning on high edges & some browning of finish above forend. Action & lockplates retain most of their original case hardening color w/ some evidence of cleaning on locks & fences. Top lever & trigger guard retain over 60% of their original blue. There is a short hairline crack behind left lockplate. Stocks retain most of their hand rubbed oil refinish w/ a scattering of light marks & a few deeper sm. dings. Checkering lightly worn. Original buttplate shows no worm damage. Bores are very fine w/ no noted dents. They are shiny w/ scattering of minor pitting near breech end of right bbl. Action has just a hint of looseness, a .001" shim will pull out of top of bbls., but catches at bottom. Locks are excellent, but gummed w/ oil & need cleaning. The S# for this gun does not fit any of the known Charles Boswell ranges. It however appears to be original & is marked on the bottom of both bbls., water table & is engraved on tang.
