BY R. TOSCHI & SONS OF LUGO, ITALY. Cal. 12 Ga. 2 3/4". S# 1027. This little known but top quality maker was one of the founders of the modern best Italian gunmaking tradition & was in business through the late 20s, & had a brief resurgence in the mid 70s. This fine gun has 28" finely struck chopperlump bbls. fitted with slightly raised concave matted rib. Top of right bbl. is engraved "R. Toschi & Flli" & top of left "Lugo". Bbl. flats are stamped with Italian nitro proofs for 2 3/4" chambers & date stamp "AB" (1975). Bottoms of bbls. are stamped "Vickers Steel". Coin finished H&H type sidelock action features nonautomatic safety & dbl. triggers (front articulated). Action is engraved with near full coverage lightly cut sm. scroll. Maker's name & address are on bottom. Beaded trigger guard has serial number on tang. Engraver's signature "A. Bregoli" is on triggerplate. Straight grip buttstock is made of a superb piece of well marbled & stump figured dense European walnut measuring 14" over serrated horn buttplate. Stock features inset horn drop points & well cut closely spaced point pattern checkering with mullered borders at grip. Matching splinter ejector forend with Anson release has gold "Toschi" engraved crest inlet on central diamond. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .734", L .736". Restriction: R .021" (MOD), L .042" (EXTRA FULL). Min. Wall Thickness: R .030", L .025". STOCK: DAH: 2 5/16". DAC: 1 5/16". LOP: 14". CAST: approx. 5/8" off. WEIGHT: 6 lb. 15 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gun is housed in a green canvas leather trimmed motorcase with stitched leather corners by Emmebi. Case is lined in green cloth & contains bags for bbls. & action. CONDITION: very fine, bbls. retaining nearly all of their fine rust blue finish with a hint of silvering on sharp edges. Action retains nearly all of its original coin finish with some areas showing cleaning over some very light frosting, mostly on bottom. Stocks retains nearly all of their original hand rubbed oil finish with some light handling marks. Checkering shows very little wear. Bores are bright & shiny without any noted defects except slight evidence of dent removal in left bbl. approx. 10" behind muzzle. Action is tight. Bbls. are on face. Ejectors are strong & in time. Case is excellent, near new. A very handsome gun. (22-1184/MGM). CURIO. $5,000-9,000.
