Smith & Wesson Military & Police 2nd Model of 1902-1st Change Double Action Revolver, #48178, .38 Special, 4'' barrel, round butt, originally with a blued finish, factory checkered hard rubber grips, standard fixed sights. Hammer spur has been shortened. Right side of barrel is marked with maker's name and patent dates in three lines; left side ''.38 S&W SPECIAL/U.S. SERVICE CTG'S''. Barrel, frame, cylinder, ejector, and right grip with matching numbers. Mfg'd ca. 1903-1904. Condition is fair. Metal with trace amounts of toning blue finish in some of the protected areas and has an overall brown patina, with patches of moderate pitting, the heaviest on the sideplate. Factory lettering is visible. Grips are very good and show signs of moderate age and wear; no chips, cracks, or significant blemishes. Good action; bore with scattered spots of erosion, rifling is good. Est.: $150-$300. (C&R/PPT)
