Rifle. Bolt-Action. WWII era British military magazine fed service rifle chambered in .303 British. Produced in the United States by Savage (C in serial number) as a No 4 Mk 1* (Star indicates simplified production in North America) for the war effort via the lend-lease program in 1943. Re-imported by I.A.C. of Alexandria, V.A. with small import marked on the left side of the butt socket and receiver. Stock has matching sn. Features a black painted finish, 25.2" barrel with integral bayonet lugs, shrouded patridge front sight, receiver mounted flip-up aperture rear sight graduated to 1,300 yards, two barrel bands, smooth trigger, detachable 10 round magazine, manual safety on the left side of the receiver, integral charge loading guide cuts in the receiver, sling swivels, smooth full-length wood handguard & forend, and straight grip shoulder stock with aluminum trapdoor buttplate. The left side of the receiver is marked "U.S.PROPERTY", “ No4 Mk1* left butt socket stamped with sn over large "S: and "1943" with small flaming bomb, also found on bayonet lug. British proofs present. Rifle retains approximately 95% of its black paint finish showing minor scratches/edge wear. Action is sound, the bore appears excellent but is dirty and the wood stocks are very good. Comes with green canvass breech cover marked "S-1942".and British tan canvass sling. NRA Condition-Near very good. C&R firearm.
