WWII era British military magazine-fed bolt action service rifle chambered in .303 British. Produced in the United States by Savage-Stevens for the war effort via the lend-lease program. Reimported by CAI of Georgia, VT with import marks on the underside of the barrel. Features a blued finish, 25.2" barrel with integral bayonet lugs, shrouded patridge front sight, receiver mounted flip-up “L” dual aperture rear sight marked for 300 & 600 yards, two barrel bands, serrated trigger, detachable 10 round magazine, manual safety on the left side of the receiver, sling swivels, integral charge loading guide cuts in the receiver, grooved full-length wood handguard, smooth full-length forend and straight grip shoulder stock with metal trapdoor buttplate containing a pull-through bore cleaning rope. The left side of the receiver is marked "U.S. PROPERTY” & "No 4 Mk 1*" and the left side of the butt socket is stamped “36C0761/S/1942”, “B” & [flaming bomb]. Includes a Savage marked No. 4 Mk. II round spike bayonet with metal scabbard. Rifle retains trace amounts of bluing with the majority of the metal surfaces displaying an aged brown patina. Action is smooth, the two-land bore is semi-lustrous with good rifling & scattered pitting and the wood stocks are good with blemishes. Condition is near NRA Good. ***C&R Firearm***
