Scarce Japanese Type 99 Arisaka Bolt Action Pressure Test Rifle, Nagoya Arsenal, #79, 7.7x58mm cal., 26" barrel, blue finish; shortened stock with two-piece buttstock, sling swivel is missing from the left side. Reinforced receiver with truncated cone piston assembly that was used by Japanese ammunition manufacturers to test the chamber pressure of rifle cartridges. Left side receiver rail is marked with the serial number and Nagoya Arsenal maker's mark. Matching number stamped on top of threaded removeable assembly and left side of the receiver. Left side of the barrel, approx. 2.5" up from the truncated cone with a larger and partially legible "26" stamped into the surface. Bolt handle and extractor are both numbered "423" with the "4" stamped sideways. Firing pin is numbered "423"; safety knob is numbered but does not match. Condition is good with the metal displaying a combination of toning blue finish and dark patina, with darker rust patina on parts of the barrel; areas of cleaned pitting on the truncated cone and pressure test portion of the rifle, as well as the trigger guard and floorplate. Wood with scattered mostly small to medium sized dents and scratches; few small pin holes on the right side, top edge and left side of the buttstock. Action functions well. Bore is poor with heavy erosion scattered throughout. Est.: $1,800-$2,400. (C&R)
