Scarce Swiss Schmidt-Rubin Model 1897 Cadet Single Shot Rifle, #629, 7.5x53.5 Swiss cal., 23.3'' barrel, blue finish, straight grip wood stock, steel buttplate, inverted ''V''-notched front sight, rear sight graduated to 400m on the right and 12000 meters on the left side. Rifle includes a bayonet lug on the underside of the front band; sling swivel on rear band and buttstock. The triggerguard on this rifle is unique as it is finger grooved. Barrel, bolt, and receiver with matching numbers. Small Swiss cross acceptance marks can be found throughout the rifle, including the receiver, bolt, handle, rear sight, bands, etc. Top of buttplate is stamped ''397/(acceptance mark)/8''. Factory lettering, acceptance marks, etc. are clear. Right side of the rear sight base with an area of concentrated scratching. Wood shows age and wear consistent with the rest of the rifle, including general surface dings and scratches as well as thinning and finish loss. Left rear edge below the receiver with an approx. .5''x4'' wood splice repair; original piece of wood may have been used as the color matches very well. Bolt and trigger pull are smooth; cocking piece functions but is a little weak. Bore is bright and rates near excellent showing light wear. Est.: $600-$900. (Antique)
