 Shared Memories by Laurel Barbieri
Measuring 12 ½ X 15 ½ inches, this one-of-a-kind original acrylic painting by nationally acclaimed artist Laurel Barbieri depicts a stylized cave drawing of two horned animals, each with individual ancient symbols embossed onto its body representing his or her life experience and also with identical matching symbols representing events they have shared together, creating shared memories.

Laurel's painting method is heavily textured, an art form she created and calls "Relief Sculpture." Her method of art is uniquely suited to convey the intensity of emotion and the texture of the paintings in Neolithic treasures, many found in caves where our ancestors once lived and celebrated life.

The strong textures and rich colors that Laurel uses in her interpretation of these images conveys her deeply held conviction that "when ancient man created these drawings, he did not know what great gifts he was leaving us. To me, these images are the most remarkable and exquisite works of art on earth."

Through art works such as "Shared Memories," she hopes to share a contemporary connection to these treasures and awaken the primitive thread that runs deep within each of us. This piece harkens back to a primitive time when a good hunt, a spacious dry cave and warm fire was the meaning of success and cause for celebration.
