Sharps Model 1874 Heavy Barrel Sporting Rifle, #54418, originally shipped to A.J. Plate & Co., San Francisco, on March 25, 1875, .40-90 bottlenose cal., 30'' octagonal barrel having desirable Hartford address and ''Calibre 40'' at breech, double set triggers, two-line patent dates on left side of receiver, open front and rear sights with brightly-blued graduated peep tang sight. Weight: 12 lbs. Originally finished in blue and case hardened metal. Varnish finished walnut stocks (buttstock with near-deluxe grain) having pewter nose cap and steel crescent buttplate. Includes Sharps factory letter signed by R.L. Moore, Jr. M.D. Condition is excellent retaining most original barrel blue; case hardening with some color but has mostly silvered out. Wood is excellent retaining most of its original varnish and minor scratches and dings. Action is tight and crisp. Bore is bright. An outstanding and rare Sharps rifle. Est.: $12,000-$14,000.
