Sharps Model 1874 Sporting Rifle, #97563, .45 CF cal., 32'' blued octagonal barrel with dovetailed German silver blade front sight and ''Shiloh Sharps'' marked combination buckhorn and sliding leaf adjustable rear sight, case hardened hammer, receiver, trigger, bottom tang and actuating lever, checkered shotgun style steel buttplate. Receiver marked on left side, ''C. Sharps' Pat./Sept. 12th 1848'', and on right side, ''C. Sharps' Pat./Oct. 5th 1852'' in two lines, and serial number on rear tang. Satin-finished two-piece walnut stocks. Barrel appears to be original, with 'Old Reliable" in script to top flat (faint but visible). Condition is excellent as configured, retaining 98% barrel blue, highly figured and colored case hardening on receiver and hammer (more subdued on lever, trigger and bottom tang). Bottom tang with milled slot and threaded hole for unknown purposes. Screw slots are immaculate. Stocks are near new; buttstock with near-deluxe grain, showing just slight handling marks and 95% satin finish. Action is tight and crisp; bore is brilliant with deep rifling. Est.: $1,500-$2,500.
