Sharps Model 1874 saddle ring carbine, .45 caliber, Serial #157633. The carbine is in fine overall condition with a 24” round barrel with square blade front and buckhorn rear sights. The barrel retains the majority of its blue finish with the remainder going to patina. The barrel is marked Old Reliable in front of the barrel band. The receiver has gone dark with traces of silver toning and retains the saddle ring. The smooth wood stocks are in very good condition with mars and compressions. The butt stock ends with a smooth, steel crescent butt plate. A Sharps factory letter accompanies the carbine confirming the listed features. The carbinewas invoiced on July 1, 1876 and shipped to Schuyler, Hartley and Graham of New York City. According to the consignor’s notes, there were 398 such carbines manufactured at the Bridgeport, Connecticut plant and 58 atthe Hartford facility. A rare and desirable Sharps carbine.
