Civil war era percussion falling block single shot carbine, converted to fire a .50-70 centerfire cartridge. Following the war In 1867, the U.S. Government contracted with Sharps to convert 31,098 carbines and 1,086 rifles from percussion to metallic cartridge breechloaders. Features a 22" barrel, sling bar with ring, lever locking latch, blade front sight, ladder rear sight that flips down to present a simple "U" notch. Bore is very good - as relined. Metal surfaces are uniformly brown patina, with shallow pitting in places. Stock is good condition, solid with numerous scratches/dents, and a worm hole in the right buttstock. Marked " New Model 1859" on barrel, SN on upper tang, Marking on lock plate, and block are very faint. Action is crisp/tight. Condition is NRA Good Antique Firearm
