Showa Period Japanese Katana, with 26-1-4'' handmade Gendaito blade, temper is Ko-gunomi-choji on one side and Ko-midare on the other; tang is signed by the smith Masatsune and dated Showa18 (1943). Blade is in a good state of polish, with numerous pinprick pitting spots, mainly in the ji. Tsuba is a San Mai Wasei style construction, made from three plates of shakudo, decorated with raised cherryblossoms, samurai helmets, and abumi (horse stirrups). The menuki are dragons in waves. The kashira is shakudo with a carved design of a shi-shi dog. The fuchi is silver with carved vines and leaves. The saya has been re-painted. Est.: $800-$1,200.
