Simson & Co., Suhl, P.08 Luger, #3729, 9mm, 3-7/8'' barrel, rust blued finish, straw small parts, checkered walnut grips, one correct matching numbered tin-plated magazine with aluminum bottom. No chamber date, toggle marked ''SIMSON & Co SUHL'', with all visible numbers matching, including grips. Simson commenced work in 1924 on these Lugers, reworking older models, and assembling and manufacturing new Lugers. This variation is one of the manufactured type, not a rework of an older model. Geischert/Geladen thumb safety and extractor; Simson ''eagle 6'', ''eagle 33'', and Simson firing proofmarks on right side of frame. Simson firing proof and ''eagle 6'' proofmarks on barrel. Additionally, Simson ''eagle 6'' proofmarks on extractor, toggle center and back sections, front of triggerguard (large & small), small parts, grip screws, mag base, and bottom of frame at the stock lug. The ''eagle 6'' proof on the sideplate is a bit faint. Condition is excellent, retaining approx. 92%-95% original rust blued finish, with light holster wear on left side of muzzle, front frame ends and sideplate, and one small spot on bottom frame near the mag opening. There are a few areas with scattered pinprick pitting on barrel, side of slide, and side of frame. Front gripstrap is strong, with light wear to the finish on the back strap. Straw finish on the trigger and safety lever is approx. 50%, mag release, slide spring, and takedown lever having approx. 90% finish remaining. Grip screws have nice slots and retain about 25% of their fire blue finish. Wood grip panels have a few flattened diamonds, and one small scuff at the bottom of the right grip, but overall are in very good shape. Magazine is in very good condition, with some stains to the plated finish and oxidation to the aluminum base. Action functions properly; bore shows light pitting with strong lands/grooves. Est.: $2,000-$2,500. (C&R)
