“Skin Care Regime” Original Oil Painting by Brent Dodd
Painted exclusively for the NRA Women's Leadership Forum by Zimbabwe rising talent Brent Dodd, this one-of-a-kind piece is sure to be both a stunning centerpiece and a conversation piece for any art collection.

This elephant was painted in Brent’s studio in the Okavango Delta of Botswana’s northern plains. The elephants come down to the water in the evenings to drink and bathe. Once they’ve drunk up to 44 gallons of water in one go they set about spraying water over their entire bodies with their trunks. Thereafter they spray sand and dust over themselves, which sticks to the wet skin, and this sandy outer coating protects them from the sun, helping to keep them cool during the hot African days. The water and sand process is much like a Skin Care Regime. The painting contrasts the wet appearance of his skin, yellow light against the cool blue and purple light of shadow, capturing the moisturizing process just before he dusts himself over. We can draw all sorts of analogies from this, about how we prepare ourselves for the world around us, its elements and its realities.
