U.S. Model 1903-A3 Bolt Action Rifle, by Smith-Corona, #4746322, .30-06 cal., 24'' barrel, parkerized/blued finish, straight grip walnut stock, blade front sight with attached hood and aperture on ramp adjustable rear sight. Marked on receiver ring ''U.S. SMITH-CORONA MODEL 03-A3'', and on barrel behind front sight, ''SC/(flaming bomb/)7 43''. On the stock there is a ''P'' firing proof on the underside of the wrist and small inspection stamps forward of the front triggerguard screw. A U.S. Ordnance Dept wheel and boxed ''FJA'' are stamped on left side of wrist. There is a U.S. GI oiler in stock butt trap. (Ref. the book, ''The Model 1903 Springfield Rifle and Its Variations'', color insert page, by Joe Poyer.) Condition overall is fine. Bolt handle has been filed and reblued, otherwise metal retains over 93% finish with thinning on the blue steel buttplate with large squares. Correct unmarked barrel band and swivels also with a blue finish. The straight stock has a sliver missing at the magazine floorplate, otherwise wood is fine with old added varnish and scattered scratches and handling marks. Action is smooth, bore with very good rifling. Est.: $600-$800. (C&R) (Joe Poyer collection)
