Early single action revolver features 6" barrel, 6 shot unfluted cylinder, hinged opening, fixed sights, spur trigger, and smooth rosewood grips (serial number stamped into the back of the right panel). Fair bore with strong rifling, good condition charge holes, smooth action and good lock-up. Engraved over 50% of its surface in the Nimschke style, and period inscribed "Anna McConnel" on backstrap (There is some historical information that shows Anna McConnell's name was sometimes misspelled with a single "L"). Finish is silver plated, very good condition with dings and handling marks, a little thin patina in several places, slightly darker color on cylinder. Wood grips are fine condition. Bottom of grip shows many small impact marks. Also included is a vast treasure trove of information, to include letters, books, Census records, and Confederate military service records that provide background on Anna McConnell (and her husbands), her correspondence with Jefferson Davis, and her position as a woman of influence and importance during and after the American Civil War. Factory letter states "was probably shipped from our factory on August 29, 1863, and delivered to Charles Gibbs, Springfield, MA. This shipment was for a 6 inch barrel, full plate finish, and smooth rosewood grips. There is no mention of any engraving or inscription in the records".
