#764426. Rare 5 inch target version. 'Model of 1905 4th Change' 1915-1942. Serial number right around 1940 to 1941. Built on the medium , 5 screw K frame. Features a tapered, pinned 5' barrel, large, pinned square cut blade on raised boss front sight, square notch adjustable rear target sights, serrated target trigger. .265 checkered spur hammer with patent marking on the hump. Old re-blued finish, case colored hammer & trigger, straps are not serrated, matching serial numbers on heel, barrel & cylinder, checkered walnut grips with gold toned S&W medallions. 5-pointed star stamped near the serial number at the bottom (heel) of the grip frame signifies that the revolver was returned to the S&W factory at some point for repair, modification, or refinishing. Standard M&P Target models were overwhelmingly ordered with 6-inch barrels. Factory-original 5-inch target variations are exceptionally scarce and highly sought after. Pre-War Craftsmanship, revolvers from this specific era feature hand-fitted parts. The bore is excellent/bright with strong rifling, the action is crisp/smooth with tight lock-up, the grips are very good with minor wear/dings and the re-blued finish is about 75% with minor scratches, holster wear, friction wear on the extractor pin and faded backstrap from handling, hammer & trigger show traces of case color and the S&W markings are crisp/clear with the exception of the S&W trade mark on the right frame which is feint. The S&W grips are newer replacements.
NRA Condition-Good. C&R Firearm.
