Civil War era antique single action rimfire revolver Manufactured in 1861, the opening year of both the firearm's production run and the American Civil War. Rare 2-Pin Variation. Serial numbers under approximately 3,000 feature a 2-pin top strap design. With the outbreak of the American Civil War, Soldiers and officers on both sides of the conflict made private purchases of the revolvers for self-defense. Specimens of the model 2 under serial number 35,731 (produced by May 1. 1865) have a high probability of being used in the Civil War. Comes with a S&W factory letter signed by Roy Jinks stating this revolver was shipped from the factory on September 4, 1861 to J.W. Storrs, NYC, S&W's sole agent from 1857 to 1869. Features blued finish, smooth rosewood two piece grips, 5" octagon barrel with sighting rib, German silver front sight blade, rear notch sights, spur trigger, square butt, 6 shot unfluted cylinder, hinged frame tip-up action, manual extractor rammer pin under the barrel, smooth rosewood grips. One line address on the barrel rib, patent dates on the cylinder. Serial number on the heel with matching serial number on the inside of the right grip panel. Bore is overall good, strong rifling with some scattered light patches of pitting. Original blue finish is about 40%, mostly on the frame and in protected areas, the remainder of the surfaces have turned a gray patina with age, handling wear, S&W markings are crisp, grips are very good. Hammer action is smooth with tight lock-up.
