The Society of the Cincinnati is a hereditary society formed in 1783 by officers of the Continental Army and their French counterparts who served in the American Revolutionary War. The Society& #39;s mission is to preserve the memory of the Revolutionary War and promote & #34;the principles of the great American republican experiment.& #34; The Society of the Cincinnati Membership Badge is a distinctive insignia worn by members of the society. The badge consists of a bald eagle, with wings outstretched, holding a ribbon in its beak that reads & #34;Omnia Relinquit Servare Rempublicam,& #34; which means & #34;He relinquished everything to serve the Republic.& #34; The eagle is surrounded by a wreath of green enamel and 13 gold stars, representing the original 13 states. The badge is made of gold and enamel and is typically worn on a ribbon or chain around the neck. The design of the badge has remained largely unchanged since it was first introduced in 1783, although there have been some minor variations over the years. Membership in the Society of the Cincinnati is restricted to male descendants of officers who served in the Continental Army or their French counterparts during the Revolutionary War. The Membership Badge is a symbol of the member& #39;s connection to this distinguished heritage and their commitment to the society& #39;s mission.
