Up Next We Have a Spanish Civil War Mauser M1916 Short Rifle Chambered in 7.62, This Spanish rifles has a Fascist crest on the front receiver ring from the days of ?Franco?s Spain". Overall Appears in Great Condition. The Model 1893 Spanish Mauser was developed into several variants, including a shortened carbine adopted by the Spanish as the M1895 - M1913 - M1916 short rifles. All versions of the rifle saw extensive service in the Spanish Army, beginning in the Spanish?American War in 1898, the Rif War of 1920?1927, and the Spanish Civil War of 1936?1939. The M1916 short rifles remained in production in Spain until 1951. Unmarked Spanish rifles, with only a serial number (no receiver date or arsenal stamps) are rifles that were refurbished during the 1931-36 period, before the Spanish Civil War, by the old Government arsenals (Oviedo, Toledo etc.). The refurbishing consisted of cutting a deeper thumb notch for charger loading, and drilling/milling the gas relief holes in the Receivers. Bolts also had longer oval gas holes when made new from the late 1920s onwards. The Model 1916 Short Rifle (22" barrel) was first adopted on November 14, 1916 to replace the M1895 carbine, the short barrels of which were not optimized to take advantage of the higher velocity of the M1913 cartridge.
