Spencer Civil War Carbine .56 Cal SN: 51521
American Civil War issued breech-loading lever action repeating rifle chambered in .56-56 Spencer, manufactured in Boston, MA circa 1863-1865 with 50,000 produced. The Spencer Carbine was adopted by the Union Army and was the world's first military metallic cartridge repeating rifle. Features a 22" round barrel, German silver blade front sight, flip-up ladder style rear sight graduated to 900 yards, rounded trigger, knurled hammer spur, 7 round tube magazine located in the buttstock, saddle bar & ring, 'J' shaped finger lever, smooth walnut forend without barrel band, and straight grip shoulder stock with inlet sling swivel & metal carbine buttplate. Matching serial numbers are found on the receiver and barrel. Rifle shows a prior heavy cleaning with the majority of the metal surfaces in-the-white with speckled brown patina & pin prick pitting. The top of the receiver has had a notch cut into it, likely used an indexing point for sighting as the current rear sight appears to be a recent addition. Action appears mechanically sound, the six land bore is good, the markings are fair and the walnut stocks are fine. Condition is NRA Good. ***Antique Firearm***
