Springfield 1873 Carbine 45-70 SN: 126686
"Trapdoor" carbine. Single-Shot. Breech-Block action. Cavalry saddle ring carbine with 22" round barrel. "Indian Wars Carbine". Lock plate marked with Eagle, and "U.S. Springfield. Hinged "Trapdoor" stamped "U.S. model 1873", appears "1878", but its just a deeply stamped "3". "VP Eagle proof on lower barrel. There is also a "R", and "P". Serial number on breech block. Correct early rear sight stamped "C" for carbine. Barrel band stamped "U", buttplate tang stamped "U.S." Bore appears good/bright with some very light pitting, good rifling. Metal finish has turned a molted gray/brown patina, traces of blue in protected areas. There are no cartouches, but has the "P" proof on the stock, (faint) possibly has been lightly sanded at some point. Wood is very good/sound with two hairline cracks forward of the triggerguard. NRA Condition-Very Good as Antique Firearm.
