US military single shot rifle manufactured circa 1878. Features 32.5" barrel, 1873 rear sight stamped "R", sling swivels, stacking swivel, external hammer, straight gripped walnut stock, curved steel buttplate. Bore is very good/bright, showing good rifling. Most metal surfaces are a dull blue,turning a brown patina. Stock is sound with a small chip under the lockplate, with numerous scratches/dingsf "P" proof cartouche visible. Breech block is stamped "Model 1873". Barrel marked over chamber "V / P / (eagle head)", "P". Buttplate marked "US" on the tang. The U.S. markings on the lock plate are clear, and the cleaning rod is incorrect for this rifle. Serial number is crisp/clear. Comes with correct issue "U.S." marked bayonet, no scabbard. Also included is a box of 20 Remington Hi-Speed 405 grain, soft point cartridges.
