US military single shot rifle manufactured circa 1880. Features 32" barrel, blade front sight, 1873 rear sight with elevator ladder and tangent rails, cleaning rod, sling swivels, stacking swivel, external hammer, straight gripped walnut stock, curved steel buttplate. Bore is good or better condition, overall fairly bright with some light frosting throughout. Barrel and bands retain 40% finish, most original blue on bands, most metal fading to patina brown. Receiver and breech are case colored, now mostly dull silver with some retained mottling of darker gray, light patina throughout. Lock plate retains 80% deep blue, with some light scattered patina. Many small dings across metal surfaces in many places. Buttplate is scaly with patina and some light rust. Wood is very good with many small dents, repaired chip next to top of lock plate, gouging along forend. Breech block is dated 1873. Barrel marked over chamber "V / P / (eagle head)", "P". "R" marked rear sight on base & on leaf. "US" on butt plate at top of heel. Observed markings are generally sharp edged. Condition is NRA Fine *** Antique Firearm ***
