Rifle. Single-Shot. Breech-Loading. U.S. Military issue. Produced 1873-1884. 32.5" barrel. "V P eagle proofed.Flip/ladder rear sight stamped "R" for rifle. Lock plate marked "U.S. Springfield" with eagle. U.S. marked buttplate. Hinged breechblock marked "U.S. model 1873" (Feint date)Feint trace of the "P" proof cartouche behind lower tang. Bore is very good. Hammer/Breechblock lock up tight. Cleaning rod present. Metal has turned a gray/plum patina except for the lock plate and triggerguard. Wood has the usual dings and scratches. Nothing serious. Some white paint by the right buttplate. Will clean off. One tang screw is a replacement. NRA Condition-Near Very Good. Antique firearm
